Paddle Steamer Waverley has everything to offer for the steam enthusiast. Centrepiece is the magnificent 2100 horsepower, triple expansion steam engine, open to full public view. Watch the Engineer operate the engine as we arrive and depart from piers on your cruise. The Engineer on watch will also be delighted to answer any technical questions you may wish to ask.
Also on view are the massive 18 foot diameter feathering paddle wheels. Watch the deck crew operate Waverley’s steam powered Windlass and Capstan as the ship arrives and berths at the numerous piers we visit. For pre-booked groups a tour round the bridge and engine room can be arranged where practicable. See the mighty steam engines at work aboard Waverley – turning her famous paddles!
The engines are open to view –see the engineers at work – hear the clang of the telegraph as the Captain sends sailing instructions to the engine room.
