WAVERLEY’S 2025 SAILINGS – CELEBRATING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF PRESERVATION

Waverley is sailing until Sunday 19th October, tickets can be booked in advance for all sailings:

  • South Coast and Isle of Wight – until 23rd September
  • London & Thames Estuary – 24th September to 12th October
  • Glasgow and Clyde Coast Autumn – 18th & 19th October

As a charity our primary aim is to maintain and operate Waverley for public benefit by offering a wide range of cruises on a living and working steam heritage attraction of national and international significance.

Maintaining a seagoing paddle steamer in full operation relies on donations, as well as fares, catering and shop sales income. During the 2024-25 winter period over £1.1 million was spent directly on Waverley to maintain her and prepare for another full season of sailings.

We are exceptionally grateful to everyone who supports our efforts to keep Waverley sailing – without you a vital piece of our proud maritime, engineering and social heritage would have been lost forever.

Sailing Updates

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 14 Sailing amended

We are have been closely monitoring the weather forecast for Sunday which predicts strong winds in excess of 40 knot gusts into the late afternoon. Given this strength of wind Waverley’s cruise has had to be amended. Waverley will operate from Southampton and Portsmouth as planned before offering a cruise in sheltered waters steaming down to Sandown Bay, through The Solent towards the Needles and Alum Bay rather than round the Island.

Passengers joining in Southampton must take the shuttle bus provided by Xelabus from Southampton Central Railway Station into the docks. The shuttle bus will operate from outside Blechynden Terrace (this is on the Platform 1 side of the station), SO15 1AL departing at 9:30am. Southampton passengers will return direct to Southampton at 8pm.

Passengers joining in Portsmouth or Gosport must take the tender provided by Gosport Ferry departing at 11:45am. The Portsmouth tender will depart from The Hard, Portsmouth Harbour, PO1 3EB. Follow signs for Gosport Ferry adjacent to the entrance of Portsmouth Harbour Railway Station. The Gosport tender will depart from the ferry terminal, South Street, Gosport, PO12 1EP. Please note that passengers in wheelchairs are not able to transfer via tender. Portsmouth passengers will return to The Hard at around 5:30pm.

Passengers joining in Ryde must take the tender provided Solent Cruises vessel Solent Cat which will now depart Ryde Pier Head at 11am and connect with Waverley in Portsmouth Harbour. The return will be around 6pm. 

For those travelling there will be either the offer of a Half Price Voucher for a future sailing or a part refund on your tickets. Please contact the Purser’s Office once aboard.

MONDAY September 15 No sailing scheduled for today

There is no scheduled sailing on Monday September 15.

TUESDAY September 16 Sailing operating as timetabled

Waverley will sail from Portsmouth (tender departs Portsmouth Hard Interchange at 1015) for a cruise along the Sussex Coast to Eastbourne (1545 – 1615), then for a cruise viewing Beach Head & Seven Sisters.

Passengers joining in Portsmouth must take the tender provided by Gosport Ferry departing at 10:15am. The Portsmouth tender will depart from The Hard, Portsmouth Harbour, PO1 3EB. Follow signs for Gosport Ferry adjacent to the entrance of Portsmouth Harbour Railway Station. Please note that passengers in wheelchairs are not able to transfer via tender.

 One-way tickets from Portsmouth to Eastbourne remain available. All other options are fully booked.
