SAVING WAVERLEY – HOW THE WORLD’S LAST SEAGOING PADDLE STEAMER WAS BOUGHT FOR £1
Welcome to two exclusive films, one telling the story of how Waverley, the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer, was bought for £1 and the other describing how a band of volunteers kept the MV Balmoral pleasure steamer afloat.
The first film, by John Dakin of Augenblick Productions and with interviews by Nigel Heath, was recorded on a Waverley cruise to Lundy Island in June, 2010, but remained undiscovered on a disc for 15 years, until viewed for the first time in January, 2025.
The second film by the same team was recorded in June, 2009 on the MV Balmoral’s 60th anniversary cruise to Ilfracombe, North Devon.
All profits from the sale of this DVD will go to help the charities and volunteers working tirelessly to support Waverley, National Historic Ships UK’s Flagship of the Year 2024, and the MV Balmoral, which won the same award in 2016 and it is hoped will return to cruising one day.
Total Programme Duration: 2.3 hours approx.
Price includes P&P to the UK only.
