MASTS & WINDOWS WINTER APPEAL 2025-26

Since 2023 Waverley has welcomed over 150,000 passengers aboard annually thanks to ambitious sailing programmes which see her visit several areas of the UK. Given her renewed popularity Waverley’s owning charity has been able to meet the cost of annual winter maintenance works and also afforded several renewal and refurbishment projects in recent years. However, given the cost of some capital projects we will from from time to time require support by those who care about Waverley and wish to see remain operational.

During winter 2025-26 the fire sprinkler system is due to be replaced as well as the port side spring beam in the paddlebox, the cost of these two projects alone is over £500,000. Funding for the sprinkler system has been provided jointly by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society and Waverley’s owning charity and we are grateful for the ongoing support from the PSPS. The decision to replace the fire sprinkler system was taken as we look to ensure Waverley’s operation for many more years to come.

The Masts and Windows Winter Appeal was launched in December 2025 to raise £135,000 to replace both the ship’s masts and most of the Dining Saloon windows which are in a poor condition. Replacing the timber masts and window frames will help retain the authentic character of Waverley. Within 24 hours of opening the appeal over £30,000 had been donated, a clear demonstration of the affection held for Waverley and what she means to so many individuals.
