WAVERLEY 50 YEARS OF PRESERVATION – NEW PUBLICATION

WAVERLEY 50 YEARS OF PRESERVATION – PRE-ORDER BY 8TH AUGUST FOR FREE P&P

Waverley 50 Years of Preservation is a celebration of Waverley’s remarkable career since being sold for £1 in August 1974. This new publication contains many unseen images which capture Waverley throughout the UK during her preservation years.

This book commemorates the vessel’s Golden Jubilee of preservation, celebrating an incredible five decades of history and resilience. Often hailed as “A Scottish icon” and “The most famous ship in Britain” Waverley has become a symbol of maritime heritage and nostalgia.

From her humble beginnings on the Clyde to her status as a beloved national treasure, Waverley’s story is nothing short of miraculous. Built in 1946 to replace vessels lost during the war, she served the upper reaches of the Firth of Clyde. It wasn’t until the decline of Britain’s paddle steamers in the 1960s that Waverley emerged as a standout survivor. Through the tireless efforts of the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society and a stroke of luck, she was saved from the breakers yard and gifted for just £1, launching a new career as a preserved vessel.

A4, 116 pages, over 200 images, most in colour and previously unpublished.

This new book will be available to purchase on board Waverley from 8th August.

PRE-ORDER UNTIL THE 8TH AUGUST AT COVER PRICE OF £19.50 WITH FREE POSTAGE AND PACKING.
