Waverley set off from her Winter berth on the River Clyde in Glasgow on Tuesday morning (19 April) shortly after 10am.
She navigated her way ‘Doon the Watter’ turning at the Tail of the Bank before berthing at Greenock’s Custom House Quay. From there she was moved the short distance to Garvel dry dock by tug and was safely on the blocks by mid-afternoon.
During her time in Dry Dock, Waverley is scheduled to have a full under water hull inspection, a hull repaint and work carried out on her paddles. There is some steel work due to be carried out in the port paddlebox during this docking. Waverley will then emerge looking refreshed ahead of her 75th anniversary.
As this was Waverley’s first move of the year, word travelled almost as fast as she did meaning people gathered to see her in action, some commenting she could be heard before being seen!
Dry docking Waverley is the single largest expense of the winter refit, and it is being funded thanks to those who have continued to support the ship and our recent appeal. Donations can still be made online at waverleyexcursions.co.uk or by calling 0141 243 2224.
