We are delighted to announce that Steam Tug Challenge and Waverley will sail together in a ‘Steam Parade’ on Monday October 3. The two historic steam ships will meet up off Southend Pier before Challenge escorts Waverley to the Red Sands Fort. With steam whistles sounding and the beat of Waverley’s paddles this is a cruise not to be missed.
Challenge and Waverley are both registered in the National Historic Fleet. Challenge was the last steam tug to have worked on the Thames, but is best known for the role she played in Operation Dynamo, evacuating of troops from the shores of Dunkirk in 1940.
Waverley returns to the Thames from Friday September 23 with sailings from London’s Tower Pier, Gravesend, Southend, Whitstable, Clacton and Southwold. Tickets for Waverley’s Thames sailings can be purchased online or by calling 0141 243 2224.
